Maine Power of Care Campaign

Keeping Long-Term Care Residents and Staff Safe

In late 2022, the Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP), in partnership with the Maine Health Care Association, launched the "Power of Care: Immunization Campaign" to increase vaccination rates among direct care staff of Long-Term Care facilities, Home Health, and Home Care Agencies.

Building on this success, the campaign is now expanding to include resident vaccinations in an effort to improve voluntary influenza and COVID-19 immunization rates for this population. This initiative educates and engages residents, their families, and direct care staff directly within their communities.

To further support these efforts, we are recruiting caregivers for our Power of Care Ambassador Program. Ambassadors play a vital role in ensuring that residents, staff, and family members are well-informed about the benefits of immunizations, and they will receive $100 per month in compensation for their participation. Interested in making a difference? Apply today to become a Power of Care Ambassador and help protect our long-term care communities.

Campaign components include:

  • A Power of Care Tool Kit which provides facilities with detailed background information including messages and tools you can use to encourage immunizations
  • A Power of Care Poster in the tool kit to announce the next on-site immunization clinic
  • A Brochure that outlines the Power of Care Program and the efforts we are taking to keep residents safe
  • Tent cards that can be placed in sitting areas for residents and their families to remind them about the importance of immunizations
  • Seasonal Greeting Cards for facilities to personalize and deliver to residents to show how much they care for them
  • A digital and social media campaign geared toward family members with messages designed to help keep everyone safe, informed, and healthy—all in a respectful manner.
