Family Councils Impact the Quality of Care and Life for Nursing Facility Residents

A Family Council is an independent group of families and friends of residents that organize to protect and improve the quality of care and life for residents within a nursing facility. Family Councils have proven to be very effective in producing desired changes regarding common concerns within nursing facilities.

Families of residents in nursing facilities have the legal right to organize Family Councils. While these groups are self led and self determining, the Ombudsman Program is happy to provide information and support for the establishment of Family Councils.
